Vital Tips To Be Taken For Maintaining A Garden

Garden is one of the most beautiful part of any home that is used for recreational activities. A garden maintenance from time to time is also necessary to maintain its beauty.  Garden that is filled with weeds, dry leaves, dry grass, pests, dry flowers, and many other things looks ugly and can make you and plants sick. People can either do the garden maintenance themselves or they can call a gardener to do the needful. Here are some of the tips that people may adopt to maintain the garden and make it clean and healthy.

Purchasing of the plants

People must check the plants fully before buying a new one. If the plant is already suffering with any disease, it can bring that disease to other plants also. There are many books and magazines which people can read to get the information regarding the healthy plants. People should not buy such plants whose stems have rotted or there are any dead spots. People should check the quality of the roots also before making the purchase. If the roots are of dark color or have become mushy then such pants should not be purchased.

Using composite soil

A compost pile consists of many materials and decomposition rate of each material is different. Some of them decompose amazingly fast while others are slow in this process. People should not use the debris of the infected plants whose treatment has not been done. If such debris will be used, then chances of spreading of the disease in other plants increase. If the gardener is not sure whether the waste of the yard is good for usage or not, he should avoid the usage.

Free the garden from bugs

Insects and bugs damage the plants a lot. They feed on the leaves, flowers and fruits and also damage the stems. Viruses and bacteria can also enter the plants easily and damage the plants from inside. The insects and bugs are also the carriers of these bacteria and viruses. One of the common carriers of these viruses is aphids which can cause various kinds of problem in plants. Leafhoppers are another type of bugs that damage the plants. The gardener should look for these bugs and insects and use pesticides to kill them so that they cannot damage the plants.

Clean the garden during fall.

The best time to clean the garden is in the fall. This garden maintenance will help in protecting the plants from the diseases that are already existing in the garden. Most of the times, the diseases are available on dead leaves and debris. These diseases can attack the new leaves of the other plants easily. To reduce or eliminate the diseases, the dead leaves and the debris should be removed.

Using correct fertilizer

Care should be taken when the fertilizers are added to the plants. If such a fertilizer is used, then roots may get burnt which can lead to their death. It is so because roots will not be able to absorb water. It is better that the gardener should test the soil during garden maintenance. He can either do it himself or take the soil to an agency for testing its fertility.

Pruning damaged parts

The time of late winters is particularly good when the gardener can prune the trees and shrubs. Pruning is necessary in garden maintenance so that damaged parts can be removed. These damaged parts can be easily attacked by viruses and bacteria and damage the plants.
